Applications are now open for the hackathon component of Code Cash Crop 4.0 and here is everything you need to know about it.

It’s time to roll up your sleeves, put on your thinking caps, and join us for the fourth edition of the AFEX Code Cash Crop ag-hackathon. This year, we are bringing together the brightest minds in the agriculture, finance, and technology industry across Africa, in a Pan- African ag-hackathon designed to build revolutionary products for ‘scaling market-led solutions’ in Africa’s food systems.

Over the years, the African agritech industry has made significant strides in addressing food system challenges and ensuring food security for the growing population. However, in fully realizing this goal, the convergence of agriculture, finance, and technology is crucial in providing innovative and scalable solutions in the value chain.

Code Cash Crop 4.0 ag-hackathon provides a collaborative environment for African youths to generate innovative ideas and prototype new solutions that merge agriculture, finance, and technology to advance market-led approaches in the food system.

Code Cash Crop 4.0 ag-hackathon scope

  • 2 countries (Nigeria and Kenya)
  • 30 selected participants to pitch and network at boot camps
  • A whopping 10,000 dollars prize
  • Internship opportunities, mentorship programs, panel discussions
  • Industry-leading judges and speakers from the 3 sectors – agriculture, finance, and technology.

This is more than an ag-hackathon; it is a movement of disruptors and game changers. Applications are now open to interested participants in Nigeria and Kenya to submit proposals, proffering a solution to any of these three challenges to qualify for the next phase of the ag-hackathon:

  • The data challenge: Develop a price data mining database that can be accessed through the web or mobile devices, serving as the go-to source for pricing information in Nigeria.

  • The extension challenge: Create a USSD application and supporting infrastructure that provides personalized capacity building and real-time agronomy support, while also addressing language barriers for an immersive experience.

  • The logistics challenge: Develop a warehousing solution that allows farmers, off-takers, and processors to easily request storage and logistics services in real-time and have their produce dispatched with engaging experiences. The solution should prioritize accessibility and communication, particularly for farmers in rural areas.

You can find more details on the challenges HERE. Remember that your proposals must reflect realistic business models and contain the following segments: the key value proposition of your solution, SWOT analysis, target customers, and your business strategy.

Who are we looking for?

If you have a passion for developing scalable solutions in the agriculture, finance, and technology sectors, this ag-hackathon is for you. Your solution would be graded on:

  • Alignment to either one or more of the indicated challenges.

  • Depth of solution

  • Viability, scalability, and sustainability of the solution

  • Quality of proposal

How to submit your solution

You can submit your solutions HERE. Remember the deadline for submission of proposals is May 30th and 30 lucky participants will be selected to pitch their ideas at designated bootcamps across Nigeria and Kenya.
